Decorating Our Homeschool Room '08

First of all I want to say I know having a specific homeschool room isn't necessary. I'm sure we'll spend time around our kitchen table and lying around on the sophas too but being the stress case that I am, I have to have things organized or I'll go crazy before I even get started! :)I figured since the kids and I will be spending a lot of time in here, the room should be cheerful and cozy. I'm not much of a decorator and after not having much luck looking for ideas on the web, I came across this cute ladies blog at nestingplacenc.blogspot.com she gave me a few ideas that are fast, easy and inexpensive. Here's some pictures of what I've done so far.

These curtains started out plain blue, I never liked them but didn't want them to go to waste so, I bought two different colors of ribbon and just glued them on with fabric glue. I used a curtain rod I already had and there you go, all for $12 (including glue). You can also see the alphabet I stenciled on the wall, cost $10. I can officially say I've "mistreated my windows", I hope "The Nester" would be proud. If you Google window mistreatments, you'll find many homemakers taking her ideas and running with them. I have all kinds of things I want to do now. She really got me motivated to do some decorating. My neice jumped on the band wagon too, you can see what she's up to at findingthenest.blogspot.com .

Above the desk it reads the Charlotte Mason Motto "I am" "I can" "I ought" "I will"

These cute 5x7 colorful frames are from Ikea, I purchased them almost 2 years ago but never found the right place for them. Original cost total approx. $6, they contain a scripture passage, picture of Arizona flag, Washington Monument and a picture of Christ at the Door. I got the green desk lamp at Walmart $4! Everything else we had already.

I found this table on Craigslist for $150 and it came with six chairs. It's a great deal compared to what I would have paid for a new table of this quality. I already had this old cork board in storage, I just painted it blue.

The chalk board I bought at Hobby Lobby for $12 (not a great deal but OK.) My darling husband added the chunkier molding for me, which I think makes it a lot cuter. I have now added the School name above the chalkboard, looks pretty good:)

Wall clock Walmart $5, Wall Erasable Calendar Walmart $5.

This bookshelf used to be black so I painted it white (pain in the rear) but worth it. The paint supplies came to $30. 2 Large Wall maps from Office Max $5 ea., colorful bins from Target $6, we already had the rug, globe and flag. I'm telling you, I've FINALLY learned before you go shopping, look around your house and see what you already have. I wish I hadn't given away so many great things over the years. I've also learned to try and sell things on craigslist before just giving everything away, especially furniture. I'm all about helping people out but I also don't want my husband working until he's 80. :)

Total cost on everything but table $125
