Father And Son Campout

Kimball took the boys to the annual Father/Son Campout w/ our church members this week. They had a great time, and Sophia and I had a relaxing time at home. The highlights of their trip were playing with a snake they found and the canoe rides on the lake. The boys said they were super cold that night, Jaxon said his teeth were chattering and of course I had to ask if Kimball snuggled them to keep them warm...men just don't think like women. It's so dang hot down here, you just don't realize how cold it can still get in the mountains at night. I'm always relieved when they make it back home safely. They are lucky to have a dad who takes them and makes it fun for them each year. We are planning a family camping trip at this very moment. I love being outdoors, but I don't mind lying by the pool with a Pina Colada either, not sure which one to choose. I'm itching for a get away with my husband too, so it may just be the two of us.

The school year is winding down, there's so much I still want to cover/learn/teach this year, but I'm also feeling like a little break would do us all good. We will work through June but with a lighter schedule, then take all of July off. I guess we'll play it by ear.

It's been a fun and pretty relaxing weekend. Jaxon's book group had their second meeting, they discussed the book Holes. They all liked it a lot and seem to be enjoying their club. It's fun to see such a great group of boys get excited about reading. I can't tell you how opposite that is from my childhood. I can't remember ever reading a book...seriously! I can't even name any that I actually read in high school. I know of some I dabbled in, but I doubt I ever finished any. I didn't get into reading until I was about 24. It's pretty sad really, I think that's probably why I'm so eager to learn now, to make up for lost time.

We didn't do much school work today other than a lot of math for both boys, swimming lessons and reading. Jaxon did work on writing his book quite a bit & he read the entire book The Fire Within. I have a pulled muscle that is killing...that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! Hopefully I'll get off my tush more tomorrow.

"Roughin It"

Bear Lake Canyon - Ward Camp Out
Don't worry Dad I got the trench covered. It was raining when we arrived and for those of you who know just how much Kimball doesn't like to get wet (about as much as a cat) this was a problem. He had never heard of digging a trench to keep the water out of your tent so I had to take matters into my own hands.

Kimball thinks he's a rebel for bringing Dr. Pepper.

With some friends, Lauren, Rachelle and Alice. Lauren made fun of me for sporting the ski parka but hey, I'm used to 110 degree weather!

I was starting to wonder if Kimball really was an Eagle Scout... until he tied an impressive knot to secure our tarp. I'm kidding he did great once the rain stopped:)

Can you spot Kade in this picture? He wore camouflage (from head to toe the entire time so the bears won't see him.)

Brown Eyed Boy

Piro Man at it again.

It was SO relaxing and peaceful up there. Which brings me to the question "where in the world is Sophia?"
She stayed home with the sitter (our neighbor). We missed her but it was a nice 24 hour break for me and it was a really rugged campground so I think she would have had a really hard time.

Hiking down to Bear Canyon Lake

Jaxon caught a Crawdad. The lake was beautiful and so relaxing, if only we had a fishing pole and more time. Jaxon and Kade decided they like the mountains more then the beach! I think we'll go again in a few weeks.
