Summer Happenings - Baseball Fashion & Puppy's

Movie day/play/diamand backs/library/camps/visit from texans/Utah trip
Unfortunately since I took a blog break all summer I rarely thought of taking pictures. I guess I just needed a break from my photographer/family historian job for a bit. I managed to get a few so are you ready for total randomness?

Just an ordinary day where Sophia tries to pull a Punky Brewster and then go out in public.
It's summer time here in Gilbert, Arizona and we are having a good time. I am enjoying the kids at home. As always, we made a list of fun things to do this summer. Last week we went to a Diamond Backs baseball game, actually, it was just Kimball, Kade and I. Soph got in a lot of trouble and Jaxon didn't want to go so I had him babysit her. I feel that sometimes the punishment has to be harsh in order for them to really get it, so even though we all really wanted her to go, I think it worked! She is being good to Cash finally and doing a lot better at telling the truth.

Kade on a date night with just Kimall and I. He LOVED having one on one time and being spoiled for a night. He had been wanting to go to a Diamond Backs game for a long time...it was a blast.

We rode the Tram into Phoenix. It was kind of fun until you remember it stops a zillion times and you could have just driven there and actually seen the first pitch. Oh well. :)

I'm really going to miss living in Arizona. I love having a professional baseball, basketball & football team. Games or so fun.

It was an incredible game. After like three or so over times, we got a home run. It was the hot guy with the tattoos is all I remember. :) They followed it up with a fabulous firework show with Star Wars music playing in the back ground. Kade. could. have. died.
Of course we logged a lot of hours in the pool. Sophia couldn't get enough, the boys had to be forced most times...I don't get it. I spent my summers at Super Sliders from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. every day that I could as a kid and loved every second of it.

Kade snuggled with Johnny Cash to no end. One day he even took a full on bath with him. It was disgusting...the water was totally merky and Kade came out smelling like a wet puppy, but they are soul mates. Lol. Cash also sleeps with Kade every night. They are both major snugglers so they're perfect for each other.

Growing Older

Today is Father's Day. It's a lovely June day here in Gilbert Arizona, the temperatures have been around 105ish but this week should be around 112. After that, there's no looking back until October. : / This morning Sophia and I woke the boys up at 7:30 to make Kimball breakfast in bed. Jaxon cooked scrambled eggs and turkey bacon, Sophia made the orange juice and picked the flowers, Kaden made the toast and a card. We gave him a plane ticket to see his family in Boise, Idaho. His youngest brother Shane is going to get married in August. Sophia's been making him cards and cards all weekend, she's such a hoot! I LOVE having a little one in the house still.

On that subject, I have really been sad lately that my kids are growing so fast. I look at pictures of them 3 or 4 years ago and wonder how it went so fast. I wonder if we are meant to adopt again, I get tempted, then I doubt my abilities. I doubt whether or not I have it in me to be a great mom at this point to a newborn. It takes so much energy and work, at times I feel so dang tired....I don't know if I want to do it again. Also, I wonder if the dynamics would change for the worse or the better. I want to make sure I have enough time and love for all of them.

Soph starts kindergarten this year, it will be so strange to have an empty house every day, but I'm sure I'll find a way to use the time. Sophia is beyond excited to go to school, and I know she'll love having friends and feeling like she's learning and growing. She's such a little mama I can't even tell you! Lately, she's been playing doctor with our emergency kit. She wraps us all in ace bandages and takes our pulse, temperatures and draws blood. For several years now she's said she wants to be a doctor.

Jaxon grew 8-9" last year and gained 25 lbs.
Tomorrow morning Jaxon leaves for scout camp where Kimball will join them on Thursday. He was just made the president of his deacons coroum. Jaxon starts a new school next month, I sure hope he likes it. It seems crazy that he'll be in eighth grade. He had a fabulous time playing flag football this year and loved having Kimball as the assistant coach.

Kade will be going to drama camp in Mesa for the next two weeks M-F. He's SO SO excited! I am anxious to pick him up and hear all about it, I know he'll love it. He's going into 5th grade next year and it hurts my gut. He's my snugly little bear and I just can't get enough of him. :) Yes, he's picking up on some smart mouth talk, but I'm hoping he'll resist the urge to get an attitude.

Being a mom is such a hard job. I'm always second guessing my choices or grimacing at some of my actions. I try to keep the cursing to a minimum ;), but old habits are hard to break. Still, I am capable of much better than I'm currently giving.

My mothers health is getting bad quickly. For a few years now her memory has been fading. She's done her best to keep us in the dark when it comes to her health. It's now to a point that is really upsetting me. I spoke to her the other day and she remembered  nothing. Yes, she remembered me (I think), and the kids, but I have to retell the same stories, plans and occurrences every time we talk (and we talk at least once a day), she seems so confused, frustrated and even embarrassed. We are pretty sure she's getting dementia. It's really sad. Friday, after we spoke, I couldn't help but cry on and off all day. Still, tears come to my eyes the second I start thinking much about it. Last week in Relief Society, I got all teary for no reason but the fact that I started thinking about her. I am sad we don't live near them so I can help as she declines. Being the youngest of seven, I feel way too young to lose my parents. I know there's a lot we must learn from watching our parents grow old, but it's heart wrenching none the less.

I am getting way too sad writing this...must sign off.

Summer Camp 2011

And he's off...

to summer camp for three and a half weeks!

I can't believe I survived the goodbye.

Honestly.

I've been dreading it for months...

and to think I managed it without any pills.

Our friend runs a boys service camp in Utah, where the boys work at a ranch and do service around the community, four hours each morning. Then they enjoy over night campouts, hiking, water activities and guest speakers.

Jaxon's pretty excited about it, I was all kinds of clingy this week...
I may have gone a bit too far when I cautioned him on what to do if he gets an ingrown toe nail.
Hey! You have to watch out for those things...they can get infected!

I'm pretty sure our friend is tired of my concerned emails and f.b. messages, he promised me he'd treat him like his own, (I know, I know, I'm one of those parents).

Seriously though, I'm excited for him and look forward to his letters and weekly phone calls. I think it's a great opportunity and I know he'll come back all manly and service oriented.

Little Kade also got teary.

It was so cute.

Of course they had to wrestle it out.

Saturday Summer Confessions

Here's the 411 on what I've been up to, in case anyone's wondering (which I'm sure you're not). :) We've basically been in what my friend Edie calls 'hunker down mode', it's blazing hot here and dry as a bone!

Call me crazy but the 116 degree temps have temporarily cured my desire to go running. I can almost hear myself getting fatter but I'm not going to beat myself up over it. If I were still living in Utah, I'd just now be coming out of hybernation.

After reading The Skinny Italian, I've been trying my hand at authentic Italian cooking...

I've spent endless hours scrubbing tile grout...

while becoming morbidly obsessed with this...

serving up microwave smore's, (as in that was dinner)!

I'm running a sweat shop clipping coupons...

giving 5 minute breaks for dance parties, while Jaxon plays us a beat on the keyboard...

knocking out last minute scout projects...

and only leaving the house for runs to Bahama Buck's!

So what are your summer confessions?

Summer Plans 2011 & A Guest Post

As I was making another one of my 'lists' the other day (about what we would do this summer), I happen to come upon a great idea. I then went over here (a favorite easy and free site) to make one of my own. This definitely makes it a little more fun, and probably more likely we'll tackle them all. Wish me luck, sometimes I talk big...but you know how it goes. :)

BTW, today I'm guest posting for my dear friend Ruth over at Living Well Spending Less, go on over and say hello.
Happy Monday!!

Wide Open Spaces

A view from my morning run.

I love the scenic route
the wide, open spaces
where the corn is tall and green,
swaying in the warm, summer breeze.

What we're up to this week...

Mom School: Finishing The Little House On The Prairie, Scripture Stories - The Final Nephite Battle (Mormon 1-8), Latin Lessons - Prima Latina

Jaxon: Finished The Work & The Glory (vol. 4 ) and started (vol. 5), lots of Saxon math assignments, grammar, spelling, and history channel galore!

Kade: Is finishing up The Magic Tree House books & Young Reader's Bible Stories, Saxon math and finishing up his spelling book, getting a second opinion on his tongue rather than having an MRI just yet.

Sophia: Potty training, canon balls, mischief!

Jessica: Reading The 5,000 Year Leap, Peace Like A River, fulfilling my life long dream of being a lunch lady...(serving lunch in the temple cafeteria for an afternoon), daily 4 mile runs (or walks), reading Bible (book of Luke), Doctrine & Covenants, making jewelry and baking bread.

PE: Swimming, walks, playing at the park, lots of martial arts, and summer parties.
