So Long Feathered Friends

A few days ago we had a big monsoon storm. While we were SO happy for the rain, it also brought mighty winds. Unfortunately our feathered friends nesting above our front porch lost their home. The boys enjoyed having them around. It was a nice opportunity for them to make entries in their nature journals. Living in the burbs, I have to jump on any chance I get to help the boys notice the nature around them. It worked pretty good actually. Jaxon had just checked out a big animal encyclopedia from the library and found that it was a Mourning Dove. Over an hour later he was still reading. I almost stopped him when I realized that's exactly what I'm aiming for!
