Weekend Getaway

Royal Palms Resort

Kimball and I have been needing some alone time, so with the great deals offered at the local resorts, we thought now we be a good time. We've spent the last few days at the Royal Palms Resort in Scottsdale, located up against Camelback Mountain. The first night we brought the kids with, for lack of a baby sitter, then last night our sitter watched them at home just 40 minutes away. We are lucky to live by so many incredible resorts here in Arizona. I love being surrounded by all the lush greenery, exotic plants and the stunning architecture. I absolutely love it's Spanish-Mediterranean style and never want to leave.

I don't know what it is but we seem to have bad luck when it comes to weather and vacations. I can count 5 times we've gone to resorts or on vacations and been rained out. You'd think I'd remember to check the forecast before making plans but living here in Arizona, it's sunny 300 days a year and you forget that it could be anything other than hot. So despite the 109 degree weather we've had already, it managed to rain for the last 2 days. Oh well, it's been kind of nice having the cold weather (88 degrees) for a change.

You can see how wet they are from the rain.

Jaxon and Kade really liked the hot tub.
Sophia was kind of a little "beast". She is trying to be so independent, she hollers at anyone that comes near her, but whines and cries if she wants you. I can't wait until she starts talking better!!

Here's my favorite part of our room...I've always wanted a bath like this.

They had fabulous service, and thought of everything before we realized we even needed it. The only thing I would say is if you have kids, it would be wiser to choose a resort that is better known for their pool and kid friendly atmosphere, like The Buttes or Point at South Mountain. Our kids had a great time and there were a few other kids there, but only a few. It also would have been nice if we didn't have to do the valet parking every time we left and came back. Tipping really ads up and it wasn't a situation where we could have just parked our own car. I guess that should be expected at a 5 star resort, we are just armatures. We tried to save money by not eating at the resort, instead we went to local restaurants (though still not very cheap). The only meal we had there was a Saturday morning brunch at the pool that was really good. Our room had a king size bed and a sitting room with a pull out sofa. The boys slept on the sofa, and we brought a sleeping bag for Sophia to sleep on for the night they were there. It was a little embarrassing when the bell hop gave Kimball a funny look when unloading the car and asked if he was supposed to bring the sleeping bag! We had a few good laughs about that and the fact that our car was pretty dirty. :)
Rain and all, it was a short but totally fun vacation (or staycation as Kade calls it).
