What About Socialization?
This is seriously the biggest concern people seem to have with homeschooling. If you know my kids, you know this isn't going to be a problem. They can carry on a conversation with a person of any age and they knew how to participate activley in a social group at like age two. I believe there are children who will be the hermit type no matter where they go to school. I also believe the parents have a lot to do with it. If the parents are social then the children are more likely to be the out going social type. I don't want our kids to feel lonely for friends or left out but I'm not worried since they are staying involved through church, scouts, sports, play dates and our homeschool group. It's not like at public school they got a lot of play time with their friends anyway. From what my kids were always saying, they couldn't talk in class, in line, or at lunch. Here are a few pictures I took of them at their new martial arts class where they'll learn Jiu Jitsu, Kick Boxing and Tae Kwan Do. Jaxon and Kade both love it! It's a great way for them to get exercise, get out their wiggles, and have fun. I love that they teach discipline, goal setting and self defense along with showing respect and support for each other. It will also be great for their self confidence. Their Master is always talking about good grades and gives out stripes for achievements in school. Tonight was only their second night but they each won both of the matches they had. I guess all that wrestling with their Dad has paid off. They couldn't wait to come home and tell Kimball about it. I must say I've already learned some good self defense tips so watch out! As for swimming, I didn't like the facility we were using, so we're waiting for a new one to open up down the street this December. It's nice to have time for these activities and not have to hurry back to homework.
